preliminary task

1. Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?

2. How did you plan your cover and contents page? What magazines did you use for your inspiration?

3. What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?

4. What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?

5. Which magazines conventions does the magazine follow?

6. Which does it break?

7. Who is your target audience and how does the layout/images/fonts/colour pallate/cover lines appeal to them?

8. Does the magazine appeal to new or regular readers – how do you know?

9. How successful was your magazine cover? Identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?

10. What have you learnt about producing a magazine front cover and contents page? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework?

Magazine

the first attempt of using adobe photoshop

we had to have practice in how to use a peice of software in which you could create a magazine cover or anything else in which you needed to edit pictures.
this software was called....... adobe photoshop.
now because i joined this lesson late at the very start of the term students were taught how to use this program and because i had no experience i had no idea in what i was doing. i started off guessing and looking my way around and thinking it would be very easy to figure out what to do. but after a whole lesson and painfully failing at what to do. i took a deep breath and asked for extreme help, now the teacher miss sutton was annoyed in the fact that i had wasted a whole lesson but reluctantly ended up helping me. she took me step buy step the way in which you cut out a particular person in a photo and how to move it onto a blank background. with adobe photoshop you have to do every little change on a different layer so then you can lock and unlock them so they dont change by mistake. after working on this program for a while it all becomes very apparent and easy to use. so after all this teaching i had managed to create my very own front page to my magazine. after creating this i was sat down and told to create the contents page, all on my own.....
things i learnt during this lesson were how to use adobe photoshop and also it is easier to ask questions before you get into such a pickle its hard to get back out of it.

band garage

our second lesson on developing our video involved another peice of software on the i-macs which was garage band.
This is a program which you develope your own music because when you make your own videos you arent allowed to use another authors music because that would be copy writing.
so on garage band you had a choice of lots of different little strings of music played on different instruments which when combined together could make an interesting tune.
we had to manage to figure out how to time it so perfect that the music went with our video we created as well as timed to perfection. some how we had manage to do this really easierly even though i thought it would be really hard. a factor that helped is the group i had been working in had past knowledge of how to use this program and knew there way around the i-macs very well.
so the garage band was a perfect top off to the video we had created and we thought it was a master peice.
the things that i had learnt from this lesson were how to use garage band and how important it was that we created our own music instead of copying others creations.

i-macs- first chance of using

my second practical lesson came down to learning how to use and how to take advantage of the i-macs that the school has.
we started off having to upload the work we had recorded in the previous lesson. we had to do more renting out from the libary but to get a connection wire this time.
we started uploading the video's which was fairly easy to do but the hard part was getting onto a peice of software on the i-mac's because we had to figure a way to convert the clips we had recorded. the software that we where using was the imovies which was extremly easy to use and get your head around. we started shortening and cutting out any parts of clips which wasnt needed and stitched the whole video together and after a good hard hours work the video was looking very nippy, worth doing and something to be proud of.
some problems that we came across though where with the talk scene which we uploaded seperatly, unfortunetly there was some sound problems with it and we all sounded like chipmunks!....
but very quickly we sorted this problem and uploaded the videos again and it worked perk. It was a lucky escape because we didnt have the time to record it all again.
so some things i have learnt from this lesson was parts like using the i-macs, using imovie and also there are not many things that cant be solved when they have gone wrong seeming the technology of the i-macs is so good.

my first practical.....

my first proper practical lesson started off with a task of recording a conversation peace.
we had to invlove a conversation about what ever we wanted and also include a 180 degree camera shot.
i got put into a group that had a missing memeber which was with ben, jack and neil. the over member of the group was luke but unfortuanetly he was un able to be in the lesson.
so we started off with a plan of what will do for our video, wrote down a sketch of scene by scene lay out....
after this we rented out one a camera with a tri-pod which we would think would be very useful and easy to use when doing our 180 degree shot.
we settled down to start shooting and boys being boys our plan went completely out the window and we started shooting a run scene with quick shoots and a boy drama affect added to it.
we had some scenes that were very short, it inlvolved a long chase with jumping off drops and running through doors. a few camera angles and effects we used were a high angle, slow-motion, 180 degree angle and point of veiw. unfortunetly we never managed to finish our recording in the lesson and had to do more in the next lesson which involved our actually talking part which was were we showed the whole story to the run scene which we had,the story ended up to be abit boring in the end but we couldn't think of anything else. so overall i ended up learning some new camera angles and several ways in which you could use a camera.
